Verdict

ActiveCampaign is still the platform to beat when automation is the job. The bill depends on more than the plan, though. CRM pipelines, SMS, WhatsApp, transactional email and AI credits are add-ons, the most useful automation features sit on Pro, and new accounts pay for unsubscribed contacts. Choose Plus if you need unlimited automation actions and landing pages. Choose Pro if you need split testing inside automations, predictive sending and attribution.

Who ActiveCampaign fits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit:

  • B2B, SaaS and service businesses nurturing leads with behavior-based sequences
  • Stores that want abandoned-cart and post-purchase automation alongside lead nurturing. Shopify, WooCommerce and Square connect on every plan.
  • Teams that want email, SMS, WhatsApp and a sales pipeline from one vendor and will pay for the add-ons

Look elsewhere if:

  • You mostly send a newsletter. beehiiv or MailerLite costs less.
  • You carry a large list of unsubscribed or inactive contacts you can't delete. ActiveCampaign's new-account billing counts them all.
  • You're an ecommerce brand whose revenue runs on SMS and flows. Compare Klaviyo.
  • You need a full CRM-led marketing suite. Compare HubSpot and read ActiveCampaign vs HubSpot.

ActiveCampaign pricing in 2026

Prices are USD per month, taken from ActiveCampaign's published price list (the data its pricing page loads) on Oct 7, 2026. The visible pricing page shows only annual-billing prices.

ActiveCampaign monthly prices by contact tier
ContactsStarter: monthly / annualPlus: monthly / annualPro: monthly / annualEnterprise: monthly / annual
1,000$19 / $15$59 / $49$99 / $79$179 / $145
2,500$49 / $39$119 / $95$189 / $149$319 / $255
5,000$99 / $79$179 / $145$259 / $205$469 / $375
10,000$189 / $149$239 / $189$469 / $375$739 / $589
25,000$489 / $391$489 / $389$789 / $629$1,099 / $879

Notes:

  • Annual billing: by our calculation, it saves roughly 17 to 21% compared with monthly. ActiveCampaign also offers a "commit annually, pay monthly" option worth up to 10%.
  • Starter at 25,000 contacts: it costs about the same as Plus, and Starter tops out at 25,000 contacts. Self-serve sign-up goes up to 50,000; above that, you talk to sales.
  • Trial: 14 days, no card, Pro-level features, but limited to 100 sends and one user. SMS isn't available during the trial.
  • Money-back guarantee: since Feb 4, 2026, ActiveCampaign has offered a 30-day refund of subscription fees on your first paid purchase. SMS and WhatsApp credits and one-time purchases are excluded.

Who you pay for: the Nov 2025 billing change

Which ActiveCampaign contacts count toward your plan
Account createdContacts that count toward your plan
On or after Nov 3, 2025All contacts, regardless of status, including unsubscribed and bounced
On or before Nov 2, 2025Active contacts only (unsubscribed and bounced don't count)

If you're opening a new account, import only the people you intend to email. Delete, rather than keep, contacts you'll never mail again. Keep a separate suppression file of unsubscribes instead of a large unsubscribed list inside the account. If you're migrating in, ActiveCampaign can import a file as unsubscribed contacts, but under the new rule those contacts count toward your bill.

What happens at the limit

  • Contact limit: your plan doesn't grow automatically unless you turn on auto-upgrade. Without it, campaigns won't send and automation email steps are skipped until you upgrade or reduce contacts.
  • Send limit: monthly sends are 10x your contact tier on Starter and Plus, 12x on Pro and 15x on Enterprise. ActiveCampaign's help center describes overage at $0.005 per email, with sending stopped at 3x the limit. Its Terms describe sending pausing until the next month instead, so check your account settings.

What a lead-nurture program costs

Example only, calculated from the prices above. Assumptions: 5,000 contacts, 4 campaigns a month (20,000 sends, within the 10x limit), welcome and lead-nurture automations with more than 5 actions, and one sales pipeline.

Example monthly cost of a lead-nurture program
SetupMonthly billingAnnual billing (per month)
Plus + Pipelines add-on$179 + $49 = $228$145 + $39 = $184
Pro + Pipelines add-on (adds split automations, predictive sending, attribution)$259 + $85 = $344$205 + $68 = $273

Pipelines on annual billing: $468/yr on Plus and $816/yr on Pro, shown per month. Not included: SMS, WhatsApp, transactional email, AI activities, taxes.

Notes:

  • Lead scoring: ActiveCampaign's pricing grid ties it to the Pipelines add-on, while its price data lists contact scoring on Plus and up. Confirm in-app.
  • AI features: ActiveCampaign's AI content generation needs Plus or higher. AI actions run on paid "activities" credits, from $1 per 200 or $35 per 10,000 a month.

When to move up:

  • Starter → Plus: when a 5-action automation can't hold your funnel, or you need landing pages or a CRM pipeline.
  • Plus → Pro: when you want to split-test automation paths, use predictive sending and content, see revenue attribution, or need 3 seats.

Automation

This is ActiveCampaign's strength. Automations can start from email opens and clicks, form submissions, site visits (with site tracking), purchases and cart events, tags, dates, deal-stage changes (with Pipelines) or custom events through the API. They can branch on conditions, wait for events, update fields and scores, send webhooks and hand off to sales.

Starter limits each automation to 5 actions, which is enough for a short welcome sequence and little else. Plus removes the cap. Pro adds split-testing of automation paths and the automation map. ActiveCampaign also publishes 950+ prebuilt automation recipes.

Integrations

ActiveCampaign lists 1,000+ integrations, including Shopify, WooCommerce, Square, WordPress, Stripe, Zapier and Salesforce. Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics and Zendesk are premium integrations on Enterprise. Store integrations on every plan support abandoned-cart automation. Plus and higher can also import historical store data. ActiveCampaign also offers a connection for AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT.

Deliverability: what ActiveCampaign documents

ActiveCampaign supports SPF, DKIM and DMARC setup for your sending domain, either automatic or manual. Accounts with at least 100,000 engaged, opted-in contacts can request a dedicated IP. Everyone else sends from ActiveCampaign's shared pools. We don't cite third-party deliverability rankings here, because we couldn't confirm their methods and dates. Any BestSends inbox-placement data appears only in the hands-on evidence section of this review, with its test date and sample.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ActiveCampaign charge for unsubscribed contacts?

For accounts created on or after Nov 3, 2025, yes: all contacts count regardless of status. Older accounts are billed on active contacts only.

Is ActiveCampaign's CRM included?

Contact records and contact-level data are included. Deal pipelines are an add-on ($49/month on Plus), and win probability needs the Sales Engagement add-on. Neither is available on Starter.

What's the difference between Plus and Pro?

Plus ($49/month annual at 1,000 contacts) removes the 5-action automation limit and adds landing pages. Pro ($79) adds predictive sending and content, split automations, attribution and 3 seats.

What happens if I go over my contact limit?

Without auto-upgrade, campaigns won't send and automation emails are skipped until you upgrade or remove contacts.

Is there a free plan?

No. There's a 14-day trial (100 sends, 1 user) and a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase.

Final Verdict

ActiveCampaign earns its place when your email depends on what people do: the pages they visit, the products they buy, the deals they move through. Plus is the realistic starting point, and Pro is where its analytics and testing pay off. Price it honestly: add the CRM or SMS add-ons you need, and remember new accounts pay for every contact. Compare it in our best email marketing software guide.

Update history

    • Added monthly and annual prices at 1,000–25,000 contacts.
    • Added the Nov 3, 2025 all-contacts billing rule and the overage behavior.
    • Corrected the integration count (1,000+; 950+ is automation recipes).
    • Corrected CRM gating (pipelines and win probability are add-ons) and Plus seats (1).
    • Added an add-on price table and the export section.
    • Removed uncited third-party deliverability claims.
    • Hands-on findings are unchanged. Score unchanged.
