Kit gives creators the most room to grow before paying (10,000 subscribers free) and keeps selling inside the email tool. You pay in two places: automation lives on Creator and up, and every sale costs 3.5% + 30¢. If your business is a funnel (opt-in, nurture, offer), Creator is worth it. If you just publish a newsletter, the free plan or beehiiv may be all you need.

Scoring Breakdown
Who Kit fits, and who should look elsewhere
Good fit
- Creators selling ebooks, templates, presets, courses or paid newsletters who want buyers tagged and followed up automatically
- Anyone with lead magnets and launch sequences, where a tag-based system beats juggling lists
- Newsletters under 10,000 subscribers that want a free plan with no send limits
Look elsewhere if
- You're an ecommerce store. Kit's abandoned-checkout recovery is limited to supported platforms. Compare Klaviyo and Omnisend.
- You need CRM pipelines, lead scoring and complex B2B automation. Compare ActiveCampaign.
- Your income plan is ads, sponsorships and referrals. See beehiiv and beehiiv vs Kit.
- You want designer-style visual emails. Kit's editor favors simple, text-forward emails; compare Flodesk.
Kit pricing in 2026
Kit bills on confirmed subscribers. Cold subscribers (no opens or clicks in about 90 days) are still confirmed, so they still count. Unsubscribed, bounced and complained subscribers don't count. When you pass a tier, Kit moves you up automatically. Moving down is manual and takes effect at your next billing date. No plan has a sending limit. Prices below are USD from kit.com/pricing on Oct 7, 2026.
| Subscribers | Free | Creator: monthly / annual (per month) | Pro: monthly / annual (per month) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,000 | $0 | $39 / $33 | $79 / $66 |
| 5,000 | $0 | $89 / $75 | $139 / $116 |
| 10,000 | $0 (Free plan cap) | $139 / $116 | $189 / $158 |
| 25,000 | n/a | $199 / $166 | $279 / $233 |
| 50,000 | n/a | $379 / $316 | $519 / $433 |
| 100,000 | n/a | $679 / $566 | $879 / $733 |
Table notes:
- Kit has no paid tier below 1,000 subscribers, so a 300-person list pays the 1,000-subscriber price.
- At 50,000 and 100,000, the annual figures are our calculation using the formula that reproduces Kit's displayed annual prices (10 months' price spread over 12).
- Current promotion: Kit's pricing page shows 25% off the first year of annual Pro for lists up to 65,000 subscribers (10% for larger lists), ending Nov 7, 2026. It doesn't apply to monthly billing or to Creator.
What a creator business costs on Kit
Example only, calculated from Kit's published prices and fees. Assumptions: monthly billing; one launch per month; 50 sales of a $29 digital product; no other paid apps.
| List size | Plan needed for a welcome sequence + sales funnel | Subscription | Kit sales fee on 50 × $29 sales | Total Kit cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | Creator | $39 | $65.75 | $104.75 |
| 5,000 | Creator | $89 | $65.75 | $154.75 |
| 10,000 | Creator | $139 | $65.75 | $204.75 |
Fee math: 3.5% of $29 is $1.015, plus $0.30, is $1.315 per sale; × 50 = $65.75. The fee scales with sales, not subscribers. If you sell through a separate checkout (such as Stripe Payment Links or a course platform) and only use Kit for email, you pay that tool's fees instead.

Notes:
- A/B testing on Free. Kit's pricing page is inconsistent. The comparison table shows 2-variant subject-line tests on Free, but the plan cards list A/B testing as a Creator feature. Check before relying on it.
- Plan names in help articles. Some help articles still call Pro "Creator Pro".
When to upgrade
- Free → Creator: the day you need a welcome sequence or an automated funnel, or want to earn from paid recommendations or sponsorships.
- Creator → Pro: when you want a referral program, engagement scoring to prune cold subscribers, deliverability reporting, or unlimited seats.
Selling with Kit: fees, payouts and ownership
- Fee: 3.5% + 30¢ per transaction on every plan. Kit describes it as "the only cost of selling through Kit."
- Payments: Stripe, through a Kit-managed account. Payouts are weekly on Fridays; the first arrives 7 to 14 days after your first sale.
- Paid newsletters: set up as subscription products (monthly, quarterly or yearly). Paid issues are broadcasts filtered to paying subscribers, and cancelled subscribers drop off automatically.
- Ownership: Kit's terms say you keep all rights to your content. Buyers are stored as subscribers with their purchase history.
- Limits: bundles aren't supported natively.
Comparison example: our arithmetic from published fees. On an $8/month paid newsletter, Kit's fee is about $0.58 per payment ($0.28 + $0.30). On beehiiv, which charges 0% plus Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30, it's about $0.53. Across 200 paying readers that's roughly $116 a month on Kit and $106 on beehiiv. The difference is small next to plan prices, so choose on features.
Earning from your list: recommendations and sponsorships
Having these features doesn't mean they'll pay. Earnings depend on your audience, engagement and niche.
- Creator Network (free recommendations): recommend other creators and be recommended back. It's on every plan, and paid plans get priority placement.
- Paid recommendations (Creator and Pro): you earn when a reader subscribes to a newsletter you recommend. Kit says payments typically range from $1 to $4+ per subscriber. Kit keeps 23.5% (a 20% service fee plus a 3.5% transaction fee), and you need a SparkLoop and Stripe connection.
- Newsletter sponsorships (Creator and Pro): Kit matches you with sponsor campaigns, up to 3 ad slots per email. Kit keeps 23.5% of total ad revenue. Payouts go to Stripe about 45 days after the end of the month the ad ran, with no minimum. Free and trial accounts can't apply.
- Programmatic ads: Kit isn't currently accepting new applications.
Automation and segmentation
Kit uses one subscriber base with tags and segments instead of separate lists, so the same person never counts twice. On Creator and Pro, visual automations combine triggers (form sign-up, tag added, purchase, link click, date, custom field) with actions and conditional branches. That covers welcome sequences, lead-magnet delivery, launch funnels, post-purchase follow-ups and re-engagement. Rules automate simple "if this, then tag that" logic.
Kit's automation is built for creator funnels. It doesn't do CRM deal stages or B2B lead scoring.
Deliverability: what Kit documents
BestSends hasn't run a documented inbox-placement test on Kit, so we don't publish placement numbers. According to Kit's documentation:
- Verified Sending Domain sets up SPF, DKIM and DMARC alignment for your own domain. Kit notes that Gmail and Yahoo now require domain verification.
- Spam complaints and hard bounces stop future sends and aren't billed.
- Cold subscribers are flagged but still billed. Kit offers list-cleaning automation templates on paid plans, and Pro adds engagement scoring and deliverability reporting.
- Dedicated IP: available for $250/month. Kit recommends it only above about 150,000 emails a week. Everyone else sends from Kit's shared pool.
Moving to Kit, and leaving it
| Direction | What moves | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| To Kit, on Creator or Pro | Kit's free migration service: subscribers, tags, lists and segments. For larger accounts, Kit's Concierge tier also covers forms, automation emails, templates and integrations. | Previously unsubscribed people included in an import aren't reactivated; they stay "Cancelled". Leave your old platform's unsubscribes out of the file. |
| From Kit | Subscriber CSV with tags, custom fields, status and attribution. Charts export, including purchases. Sequence content through the API. | Pro accounts can export broadcast reports; Kit says other accounts' broadcast CSV covers data only up to August 2023. Paid subscriptions sold through Kit can't be migrated to beehiiv; subscribers must re-subscribe on the new platform. Deleting an account is permanent within 24 to 48 hours. |
From Oct 15, 2026, Kit keeps per-email stats for 3 years in the app and 5 years through the API and export.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kit really free up to 10,000 subscribers?
Yes. The free plan includes unlimited broadcasts, landing pages, forms and selling (with the 3.5% + 30¢ sales fee). It doesn't include sequences, visual automations or RSS. Those start on Creator.
What fees does Kit charge on sales?
3.5% + 30¢ per transaction on every plan. Kit calls it the only cost of selling through Kit. Sponsorships and paid recommendations carry a separate 23.5% fee.
What's the difference between Kit Creator and Pro?
Creator ($39/month at 1,000 subscribers) adds sequences, visual automations, abandoned checkout, paid recommendations, sponsorships and free migration. Pro ($79/month) adds the referral system, engagement scoring, deliverability reporting, advanced A/B tests and unlimited seats.
Does Kit charge for unsubscribed or cold subscribers?
Not for unsubscribed, bounced or complained subscribers. Cold subscribers are still confirmed, so they count until you remove them.
Kit or beehiiv for a paid newsletter?
Per-payment fees are close: about $0.58 on Kit vs about $0.53 on beehiiv for an $8 subscription. Choose Kit if you also sell products and run funnels. Choose beehiiv if ads, referrals and a publication-style website matter more.
Is ConvertKit the same as Kit?
Yes. ConvertKit rebranded as Kit in 2024. /reviews/convertkit redirects here.
Final Verdict
Kit is the best fit on BestSends for creators whose email list is a sales channel. The free plan is long enough to find out whether people want what you make. Creator is where Kit becomes a business tool, because that's where automation lives. Budget for the 3.5% + 30¢ on every sale and the 23.5% on sponsor revenue. Weigh that against running separate email and checkout tools, and decide on total cost, not the plan price.
Update history
- Corrected commerce fees: 3.5% + 30¢ per sale on every plan. The previous version said there were no fees beyond Stripe.

- Corrected feature gating: visual automations on Creator; referral system and scoring on Pro.
- Added sponsorship and paid-recommendation fees, billing rules, deliverability documentation, and the export and migration table.
- Removed unsourced deliverability claims and outdated competitor prices.
- Score unchanged.
