Verdict

Brevo is a broad communications platform for marketing campaigns, transactional email, CRM and additional messaging channels. Its current plans separate sending volume, stored-contact allowances and automation-contact access, so buyers should size all three rather than relying on a single limit.

Brevo Overview

Brevo, formerly Sendinblue, combines marketing campaigns, transactional messaging, CRM and additional communication channels. This October 2026 refresh is an editorial overview based on Brevo’s official documentation; it is not a new hands-on test.

The central pricing distinction is that Brevo applies separate limits to email sends, stored contacts and automation contacts. Free includes 300 sends per day, up to 100,000 stored contacts and 2,000 automation contacts. Starter and Standard storage varies by the selected sending tier, so neither should be described as universally unlimited.

Brevo documents marketing and transactional email in the same platform. SMS credits can be charged separately, while WhatsApp campaigns and transactional WhatsApp are currently listed for Professional and Enterprise rather than every paid plan.

How Brevo pricing works

Three numbers decide your plan:

  1. Monthly email volume. Campaigns and transactional emails both draw from it. Unused emails expire at the end of each month, even on annual billing.
  2. Stored contacts. Each volume tier caps how many contacts you can keep.
  3. Automation contacts. Free and Starter allow 2,000 contacts in active automations. Standard and above are unlimited.
Brevo stored-contact caps by monthly email tier
Monthly email tierContacts you can store (Starter and Standard)
5,000500
10,0001,500
15,0002,500
20,000 and upUp to 500,000

Auto-upgrade: on the three smallest tiers, going over the contact limit moves you to the next tier automatically, at a higher price. Brevo’s terms say automatic upgrades stop once your subscription reaches 20,000 emails. You can’t drop to a smaller tier while your stored contacts exceed its limit; delete contacts first.

Unsubscribed (blocklisted) contacts: Brevo says you won’t be charged for blocklisted contacts on the channel they’re blocklisted from. It recommends keeping them in the account so they stay suppressed. Brevo doesn’t clearly say whether they count toward the stored-contact cap on the smallest tiers. Check before importing a large blocklist onto a 500- or 1,500-contact tier.

Add-ons and extras:

  • Remove Brevo logo on Starter. It’s a paid add-on. Brevo’s pricing data lists it at $12/month and its help center at $9/month. It’s included from Standard.
  • Extra user seats on Standard. Up to 2 more seats, priced at $12/month each in Brevo’s pricing data ($9 in its help center). Professional includes 10 seats.
  • Landing pages. Standard includes 1, with more in blocks of 5 at $24/month. Professional includes 10. Free and Starter have none.
  • Dedicated IP. $251/year, as an add-on on Professional. One is included on Enterprise.
  • SMS. Prepaid credits at $1.09 per 100. A US text uses 1 credit, so it costs about 1.1 cents. Credits never expire. Credits per message vary by country and message length.
  • WhatsApp. Professional and Enterprise only. Meta has paused marketing messages to US phone numbers since April 1, 2025.
  • Prepaid email credits. One-time packs that never expire. They include Starter features plus logo removal, with automations still capped at 2,000 contacts.
  • Sales tools. A free CRM on every plan (1 pipeline, 50 open deals, live chat, meetings). Sales Essentials is $31 per seat per month.

What it costs: Brevo vs contact-priced tools

Example only, calculated from Brevo’s prices above and Mailchimp’s published list prices (checked Oct 7, 2026). Assumptions: monthly billing, Brevo Standard (unlimited automation contacts, no Brevo logo) vs Mailchimp Standard, no add-ons.

*The 10,000-email tier ($35) stores only 1,500 contacts, so a 5,000-contact list needs the 20,000-email tier even if it sends only 10,000 emails. Size Brevo by stored contacts and by volume, and pick whichever tier is larger.

What this shows: Brevo wins clearly when a large list is mailed a few times a month. When a mid-size list is mailed weekly or more, Brevo and contact-priced tools land at similar prices. Add your transactional email volume to the monthly total, because it draws from the same allowance. See our Mailchimp review for its full price table.

Free plan: what you get

  • Sending: 300 emails a day across campaigns and transactional. Unused sends don’t roll over. A campaign to more than 300 people sends 300 on the scheduled day, and you requeue the rest for later days.
  • Contacts: store up to 100,000.
  • Automation: up to 2,000 contacts in active automations.
  • Branding: the “Sent with Brevo” sticker can’t be removed.
  • Not included: A/B testing and landing pages.
  • Inactivity: Brevo deletes free accounts unused for 4 months, after sending reminders.

Good for: testing Brevo, or transactional email from a small app. For a growing newsletter, the daily cap is the constraint, not the contact limit.

When to move up:

  • Starter to Standard: when more than 2,000 people need to be in automations, or you want A/B testing, send-time optimization or no Brevo logo without the add-on.
  • Standard to Professional: contact scoring, WhatsApp, a dedicated IP, or a team of 4 or more. Professional starts at $499/month, which is a big jump.

Store integrations

  • Shopify: through the Brevo PushOwl app. It syncs customers, products, collections and orders and supports abandoned-cart, browse-abandonment and back-in-stock flows.
  • WooCommerce: the official Brevo plugin syncs contacts, orders and products in real time, supports abandoned-cart tracking, and can send WooCommerce’s transactional emails. Sync runs one way, from WooCommerce to Brevo.

Stores that rely on email and SMS revenue should also compare Klaviyo and Omnisend.

Leaving Brevo

  • Contacts: export as CSV with their attributes. Export your blocklist too, so you can suppress those contacts on the new platform.
  • Automatic exports: Brevo discontinued daily automatic exports on May 30, 2025. Export manually before you cancel.
  • After cancelling: Brevo keeps aggregated data for 3 months.
  • Automations: we couldn’t confirm a file export. Plan to rebuild workflows.

Key Features and Plan Gates

  • Email marketing — Campaign creation, templates, segmentation and forms are documented across the current lineup.
  • Transactional email — SMTP relay, a transactional API, webhooks and logs support receipts, password resets and other event-driven messages.
  • Automation — Free includes 2,000 automation contacts. Standard lists unlimited automation contacts and multi-step workflows; this does not mean unlimited stored contacts.
  • A/B testing and AI send-time optimization — Both are listed from Standard.
  • SMS and WhatsApp — SMS credits may cost extra. WhatsApp campaigns and transactional WhatsApp are listed for Professional and Enterprise.
  • Professional features — The plan overview lists 10 seats, contact scoring and advanced ecommerce features such as product recommendations.
  • Dedicated IP — Listed for Professional and Enterprise, with one included on Enterprise. It does not guarantee inbox placement.

Automation and Workflows

Brevo’s visual workflow tools cover conditions, delays and branching for welcome, lead-nurture and re-engagement sequences. The feature gates matter: Free is limited to 2,000 automation contacts, while Standard lists unlimited automation contacts.

Channel access is separate. Email and SMS are documented on Starter, with SMS credits sold separately. WhatsApp campaigns are listed under Professional and Enterprise, so they should not be treated as a feature of every paid workflow.

For deeper conditional automation, compare the workflow requirements with ActiveCampaign. Brevo’s advantage is the option to keep marketing and transactional communications in the same platform.

Transactional Email and API

Brevo provides transactional email through SMTP relay and API endpoints, with webhooks and event logs documented for implementation and monitoring. Transactional and marketing emails draw from the same monthly allowance; there’s no separate transactional price.

That makes it a candidate for order confirmations, password resets, shipping notifications and account alerts. Managing those messages alongside permission-based marketing can reduce operational handoffs, but suitability and total cost depend on sending volume, storage tier and separately billed message credits.

Deliverability Features, Not Guarantees

Brevo documents domain authentication and transactional sending tools. Dedicated IP access is plan-dependent: it is listed for Professional and Enterprise, with one included in Enterprise.

Domain setup uses three records: a Brevo verification code, DKIM, and DMARC. Brevo handles one-click unsubscribe headers automatically and asks bulk senders to keep spam complaints under 0.3%.

A dedicated IP gives a sender more control over reputation; it does not guarantee inbox placement. We removed unsupported inbox-placement percentages from this review and are withholding a new deliverability conclusion until an independently documented test is available.

Integrations and Official Sources

Brevo’s current pricing page documents integrations with tools including Shopify, WordPress, Stripe and Zapier. Ecommerce integrations require connecting the store and configuring the relevant events; advanced ecommerce features such as product recommendations are listed for Professional. See Store integrations above for Shopify and WooCommerce.

The developer documentation covers marketing contacts, transactional email, transactional SMS, transactional WhatsApp and webhooks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Brevo pricing work?

You pay for a monthly email volume (from 5,000 on Starter at $9). Each volume tier also caps how many contacts you can store, rising to 500,000 from 20,000 emails a month. Marketing and transactional emails share the volume.

Is Brevo cheaper than Mailchimp?

For large lists mailed a few times a month, usually yes. In our example, a 25,000-contact list mailed twice a month costs $97 on Brevo Standard vs $310 on Mailchimp Standard. For lists mailed weekly or more, the gap narrows or reverses.

What are Brevo's free plan limits?

300 emails a day, up to 100,000 stored contacts, 2,000 contacts in automations, and Brevo branding. No A/B testing or landing pages.

Does Brevo charge for unsubscribed contacts?

Brevo says blocklisted contacts aren't charged on the channel they're blocklisted from. Pricing is based on email volume, but stored-contact caps apply by tier.

Is Brevo good for transactional email?

It includes an SMTP relay, an API, webhooks and logs on every plan, drawing from the same email allowance as campaigns. A dedicated IP is available on Professional ($251/year).

Final Verdict

Brevo is a practical candidate for teams that want marketing campaigns and transactional email in one platform. Its SMTP and API documentation, CRM connections and plan-based automation features make it broader than a newsletter-only service.

The key qualification is pricing complexity: sends, stored contacts and automation contacts have separate limits, and WhatsApp, dedicated IP access, seats and advanced reporting depend on tier. Size it by both monthly email volume and stored contacts, using the price table above.

This was a sponsored documentation refresh, not a new test. The existing 4.3 rating and #6 main-roundup position were not changed; both remain subject to independent editorial reassessment. Read our email marketing best practices guide for platform-independent guidance.
