Mailchimp Alternatives in 2026: What You'd Pay, Gain and Lose
Published · Updated · 14 min read
Most people leave Mailchimp for one of three reasons:
- The bill grows faster than the list, because Mailchimp counts unsubscribed contacts and duplicates across audiences.
- The automation they need sits on Standard.
- The free plan shrank to 250 contacts.
The right replacement depends on which of those is pushing you, what you send, and how big your list is. We priced the same email program on each platform at four list sizes. We also checked how each counts contacts, and listed what moves with you and what you'll rebuild. Prices are USD list prices from each vendor's pricing page on Oct 7, 2026. New to the problem? Start with our Mailchimp review and its billable contacts explainer.
What the same program costs on each platform
Example: our calculation from published list prices. The program is 4 campaigns a month to the whole list, a welcome series, one branching automation, and no vendor branding in emails. For each platform we picked the cheapest plan that runs that program. Monthly billing unless noted. Excludes taxes, SMS, add-ons and introductory offers.
| Platform (plan used) | 1,000 contacts | 5,000 | 10,000 | 25,000 | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mailchimp (Standard) | $45 (1,500 tier) | $100 | $135 | $310 | Branching flows start on Standard. Essentials allows 4-step flows ($26.50 / $75 / $110 / $270). |
| MailerLite (Comfort) | $19 | $49 | $89 | $179 | 10x sends; automation and A/B testing included. Annual billing saves 10%. |
| Brevo (Standard, sized to 4 sends/mo) | $35* (10,000 emails) | $69* (20,000) | $89* (40,000) | $139* (100,000) | Priced by monthly emails, not contacts. Four sends a month means 4x your list in emails. The 10,000-email tier stores up to 1,500 contacts; 20,000+ email tiers store up to 500,000. |
| Kit (Creator) | $39 | $89 | $139 | $199 | Annual: $33 / $75 / $116 / $166. Unlimited sends. |
| ActiveCampaign (Plus, billed annually) | $49 | $145 | $189 | $389 | ActiveCampaign shows annual prices only. Starter ($15 / $79 / $149 / $391) caps automations at 5 actions. |
| Klaviyo (Email) | $30 | $100 | $150 | $400 | 10x sends. Built for stores. |
| Omnisend (Standard) | $20 | $81 | $132 | $282 | 12x sends. Built for stores. |
| Sender (Standard) | $15 | $39 | $69 | $149 | 12x sends; branching automation is on every plan. |
| Moosend (Pro) | $16 | $48 | $88 | $160 | Unlimited sends. Annual: $13 / $38 / $70 / $128. We couldn't confirm whether Pro removes Moosend branding. |
| beehiiv (Pro) | $109 | $199 | $239 | $349 | Removing beehiiv branding needs Pro (annual: $95 / $169 / $199 / $299). Lite keeps the branding but is cheaper: $59 / $109 / $139 / $199 monthly. Built for newsletter publishing, not ecommerce. |
*Brevo prices by monthly email volume. Figures come from the pricing data behind Brevo's own price calculator on Oct 7, 2026. Starter costs less ($17 / $32 / $46 / $82 at the same volumes), but it limits automations to 2,000 contacts and charges an add-on to remove Brevo branding. Brevo's pages list that add-on at $9 or $12 a month.
How to read this table: Under about 5,000 contacts, the gap between platforms is tens of dollars a month. Pick on fit. Past 10,000 contacts, the pricing model matters more than the sticker price. Look at how each platform counts contacts (next section) and whether you can archive or suppress people you no longer email.
How each platform counts the contacts you pay for
| Platform | What you're billed on | Unsubscribed contacts count? | If you go over |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mailchimp | All contacts in each audience; duplicates across audiences count twice | Yes (cleaned, pending and archived don't) | Charged add-on contact blocks |
| MailerLite | Active subscribers, counted cumulatively during the billing cycle | No (bounced don't either) | Moved up to the next tier and charged automatically |
| Brevo | Monthly email volume; each volume tier also caps stored contacts | Volume-based | First three small tiers auto-upgrade |
| Kit | Confirmed subscribers | No | Auto-upgraded to the next tier |
| ActiveCampaign | Accounts created on or after Nov 3, 2025: all contacts. Older accounts: active contacts only. | Yes for new accounts | Campaigns stop sending until you upgrade, unless you turn on auto-upgrade |
| Klaviyo | Active (emailable) profiles; suppressed profiles excluded | No | Moved to a plan that fits your profile count |
| Omnisend | Subscribers plus non-subscribers (for example, buyers who never opted in) | No | Tier adjusts each billing cycle |
| Sender | Active subscribers, also capped by unique addresses emailed per period | No | Sending blocked until you upgrade or remove contacts |
| Moosend | Unique email addresses across lists | Not stated by Moosend | Prompted to upgrade |
| beehiiv | Active subscribers across all publications | No | Upgrade, or turn on auto-upgrade |
If unsubscribed contacts are inflating your Mailchimp bill, MailerLite, Kit, Klaviyo, Sender and beehiiv bill on active or confirmed subscribers. ActiveCampaign no longer does for accounts opened since November 2025.
The alternatives, by what you need
MailerLite: best for most small businesses leaving Mailchimp for price
Editorial score 4.4/5MailerLite is the closest swap for Mailchimp's ease of use, and it costs less at every list size in our table.
- Plans: Free, Comfort and Power.
- Free plan: 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month. It includes the automation builder (3 automations of up to 5 steps), email A/B testing and ecommerce triggers, but you can't remove the MailerLite logo.
- Comfort: (from $12/month at 500 subscribers, $19 at 1,000) removes the logo and raises limits.
- Power: adds unlimited seats, automations and sends.
- Billing: MailerLite bills on active subscribers and doesn't count unsubscribed or bounced contacts.
- Migration: self-serve, with a migration pack and support during your trial. There's no done-for-you service.
- Skip it if: you need SMS, or you run a large ecommerce program.
Brevo: best for large lists that mail occasionally
Editorial score 4.3/5Brevo prices by the number of emails you send each month, not the number of contacts you store. That changes the math for a 30,000-person list you mail twice a month.
- Free plan: stores up to 100,000 contacts and sends 300 emails a day, with Brevo branding.
- Starter: removing branding is a paid add-on ($9 to $12/month; Brevo's pages differ), and automation is limited to 2,000 contacts.
- Standard: adds A/B testing, unlimited automation contacts and branding removal.
- Other channels: SMS and WhatsApp are sold separately. Transactional email is part of the same platform.
- Billing: there's no daily limit on paid plans, but unused monthly email credits expire.
- Migration: Brevo offers a free, self-serve Mailchimp contact sync. Import your Mailchimp unsubscribes as blocklisted contacts.
- Skip it if: you mail a large list several times a week, because volume pricing then works against you.
Kit: best for creators who sell
Editorial score 4.2/5- Free plan: up to 10,000 subscribers, with unlimited landing pages and forms. You can sell digital products and paid newsletters on it.
- Fees: Kit charges 3.5% + 30¢ per sale on every plan, including card processing.
- Creator plan: visual automations with split paths, abandoned-checkout recovery for supported stores, and branding removal start here ($39/month at 1,000 subscribers).
- Sending and billing: no sending limits, and Kit bills only confirmed subscribers.
- Migration: included with every paid plan. Under 10,000 subscribers, Kit moves subscribers, tags, lists and segments. From 10,000, its Concierge service also moves forms, automation emails, templates and integrations.
- Import caution: people who previously unsubscribed from Kit aren't reactivated by an import. Kit doesn't document a way to import a file directly as unsubscribed, so leave your Mailchimp unsubscribes out of the import.
- Skip it if: you need ecommerce flows or SMS.
beehiiv: best when the newsletter is the business
Editorial score 4.6/5- Free plan: up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends and a hosted website.
- Paid plan needed: paid subscriptions (0% platform fee; Stripe fees apply), the Ad Network, the referral program, automations and custom domains all need a paid plan. Lite runs from $49/month billed annually or $59 monthly at 1,000 subscribers. beehiiv renamed its plans on Oct 1, 2026.
- Billing: only active subscribers count.
- Migration: imports from Mailchimp cover your audience CSV and content. Automations must be rebuilt.
- Skip it if: you're a store or a business that mostly sends promotions.
ActiveCampaign: best for automation and CRM
Editorial score 4.7/5If Mailchimp's flows are what you've outgrown, ActiveCampaign is the step up.
- Automation: multi-step automation is on every plan. Starter caps each automation at 5 actions; Plus removes the cap and adds landing pages.
- Sends and testing: monthly sends are 10x your contact limit on Starter and Plus. Email A/B testing is on all plans.
- Billing: accounts created on or after Nov 3, 2025 are billed for all contacts, including unsubscribed ones. Archive aggressively.
- Migration: ActiveCampaign includes onboarding with paid plans and free migration of up to 10 items (lists, forms, automations) for qualifying plans. You can import your Mailchimp unsubscribes as unsubscribed contacts.
- Skip it if: you want the lowest price, or you only send a newsletter.
Klaviyo: best for stores where email and SMS drive revenue
Editorial score 4.3/5- Free plan: 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, with the Klaviyo logo.
- Paid plans: remove the logo and allow 10x your profiles in monthly sends. The Email plan is $30 at 1,000 profiles and $150 at 10,000.
- Billing: Klaviyo bills on active profiles, and suppressed profiles don't count. You can import a CSV of suppressed addresses.
- Skip it if: you're not a store. You'd be paying for ecommerce depth you won't use.
Omnisend: best value for stores that want ecommerce automation without Klaviyo's price
Editorial score 4.2/5- Sends: Standard allows 12x your list size in sends. Pro is unlimited (fair use up to 60x).
- Introductory offer: a first-time upgrade gets 30% off if you pay 3 months upfront. After that you pay the regular monthly price, and there's no annual plan.
- Billing: Omnisend bills subscribers and non-subscribers (buyers who never opted in). Only unsubscribed contacts are excluded.
- SMS: Pro only since May 4, 2026, billed through a separate SMS credits subscription. US rates start at $0.009 per text, dropping as monthly SMS spend rises, and credits expire after 60 days.
- Migration: free for accounts with more than 250 contacts. It covers up to 4 workflows, 5 forms, 5 segments and 1 master template, in about 5 business days.
- Skip it if: you're not a store.
Sender: best free plan for a growing list
Editorial score 4.1/5- Free plan: 2,500 subscribers and 15,000 emails a month, with branching automation included. Sender branding is required.
- Standard: adds A/B testing and removes branding ($15 at 1,000 subscribers; 12x sends).
- Introductory offer: 30% off the first year of annual billing for new users.
- Billing: Sender bills active subscribers. It also caps the unique addresses you email each period.
- Migration: done-for-you migration is limited to annual plans of 20,000+ subscribers.
Moosend: lowest-cost paid plan with unlimited sends
Editorial score 4/5- Plans: no free plan, just a 30-day trial. Pro is $16/month at 1,000 subscribers, or $13 billed annually, with unlimited sends and 5 seats.
- Ownership: Moosend is now part of Constant Contact.
- Billing: Moosend bills unique addresses once across lists, but doesn't say whether unsubscribed contacts count. Ask before you import.
- Migration: a self-serve Mailchimp Synchronizer imports audiences and campaigns.
Also considered: GetResponse (webinars and funnels), Constant Contact (events, phone support), HubSpot (CRM-led B2B), and Flodesk (design-led brands; see Flodesk vs Mailchimp). See each review for current pricing.
What moves with you and what you'll rebuild
Mailchimp exports contacts (split by status), campaign content, template HTML and reports, but documents no way to export automation flows. Every platform here can import a contact CSV. What differs is how they handle unsubscribes and how much help they give.
| Platform | Import your Mailchimp unsubscribes as suppressed? | Migration help (as documented) |
|---|---|---|
| MailerLite | Yes: import to a group, then "Move to unsubscribed" | Self-serve pack; support during trial and on paid plans |
| Brevo | Yes: import as blocklisted contacts | Free Mailchimp contact sync (self-serve) |
| Kit | No documented import-as-unsubscribed. Leave them out. | Included on paid plans; Concierge from 10,000 subscribers |
| beehiiv | Inactive emails are filtered on import | Paid specialists; concierge on Enterprise |
| ActiveCampaign | Yes: "Import as Unsubscribed Contact" | Free onboarding; up to 10 items migrated on qualifying plans |
| Klaviyo | Yes: import to suppressed profiles | Not documented in our research |
| Omnisend | Yes: import with opt-out dates | Free for 250+ contacts: up to 4 workflows, 5 forms, 5 segments, 1 template (~5 business days) |
| Sender | Yes: import to a group, then bulk unsubscribe | Done-for-you on annual plans of 20,000+ |
| Moosend | Not confirmed (help page unavailable Oct 7, 2026) | Self-serve Mailchimp Synchronizer |
Always rebuild: automation flows, signup forms embedded on your site, and landing pages. Mailchimp lists landing pages and website content as not exportable.
Before you switch:
- Export all four contact files (subscribed, unsubscribed, cleaned, non-subscribed) and archive your reports. Mailchimp allows one account export per 24 hours.
- Screenshot every flow.
- Set up and authenticate your sending domain on the new platform (DKIM and DMARC) before your first send.
- Import unsubscribes and cleaned contacts as suppressed where the platform supports it.
- Send to your most engaged segment first.
- Keep Mailchimp until your forms and automations are live elsewhere. Then pause or close it, since deleting is permanent.

FAQ
What's the cheapest Mailchimp alternative?
For the program in our cost table, Sender Standard had the lowest list price at every size. Moosend Pro and MailerLite Comfort came next. Moosend's branding policy on Pro is unconfirmed. If a free plan is enough, Kit's free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers but excludes visual automations. Sender's free plan covers 2,500 subscribers with automation.
Which alternatives don't charge for unsubscribed contacts?
MailerLite, Kit, Klaviyo, Omnisend, Sender and beehiiv exclude unsubscribed contacts, according to their billing documentation. ActiveCampaign now bills all contacts on accounts created since Nov 3, 2025. Brevo bills by email volume.
Can I move my Mailchimp automations?
Not as files. Mailchimp doesn't document an automation export, so you'll rebuild them. Kit's Concierge service, Omnisend's free migration (up to 4 workflows) and ActiveCampaign's migration service (up to 10 items) say they'll move some automations or automation emails for you.
Is there an alternative with free migration?
Kit (paid plans), Omnisend (free for accounts over 250 contacts, with item limits), ActiveCampaign (qualifying plans, up to 10 items), and Sender (annual plans with 20,000+ subscribers) all document migration help. Brevo and Moosend offer self-serve Mailchimp sync tools.
Will my deliverability drop when I switch?
It can, temporarily, if you move to a new sending domain or start mailing your whole list at once from a new platform. Authenticate your domain first, suppress unsubscribes and bounces, and start with engaged subscribers. No platform can guarantee inbox placement.
